Community Wellbeing Shed Development Coordinator

Cirencester/On site as required

Reporting to:  Chief Executive Officer

We are seeking a friendly, enthusiastic and motivated Shed Development Coordinator to join our Community Wellbeing Service supporting people, especially men, through our Sheds Project. This supports individuals who are socially isolated, experiencing mental challenges, have on-going health issues and are long term unemployed.

The Sheds Project is well established and offers a space where people can build confidence, learn practical skills, and take part in meaningful, community-led projects. Some participants are starting with very little confidence or experience, while others are ready for more structured roles and responsibilities. A strong culture of volunteering is emerging, with a shift towards a more sustainable, participant-led approach. We now need a dedicated coordinator to support this development – someone who can work alongside people, help them take on more active roles, and make sure the project continues to grow in a meaningful and inclusive way.

This role suits someone experienced in supporting people facing challenges and barriers, with confidence in building trust. An understanding of mental health—especially men’s mental health—and its impact on engagement is important. A background in mental health or working with men is an advantage. While experience managing projects and working with volunteers is helpful, it is not essential. You’ll need a hands-on, flexible approach, the ability to work wellwithin a team, and the initiative to be resourceful and adaptable. Strong administration and IT skills are also required.

The Churn Project is an independent charity working for the past 24 years in Cirencester and the surrounding villages. In 2023/24, we supported over 1500 people to reduce isolation and loneliness, improve wellbeing, learn new skills, and feel part of their community. Our vision is that all people should be included, involved and invested in their community, feel supported and valued and given the opportunity to achieve their potential.

THE ROLE

As Shed Development Coordinator, you will oversee three shed sites, each at different stages of development and varying in size. You will organise weekly sessions alongside volunteers and the wider team, including both community and men’s shed activities, balancing a mix of community projects, skills sessions, and personal projects. This includes managing the spaces and supporting men’s mental health development, including running a men’s mental health group. Supporting volunteers and ensuring their involvement aligns with the ethos of the project will be key, as well as showcasing the project’s work within the community. You will manage referrals, ensuring the right people access the service and are supported appropriately.

You will ensure service delivery is in line with agreed outputs and all outcome measuring is recorded and up to date. You will utilise our CRM system to record and evaluate work and provide information as required.

You should thrive in a collaborative working environment and be able to engage with professionals, partner agencies and others to ensure we continue to meet the needs of people accessing this programme.
