Retail Manager - new shop opening!

WE HAVE AN EXCITING OPPORTUNITY FOR A FULL TIME MANAGER TO LEAD THE DEVELOPMENT OF OUR NEW FURNITURE SHOP IN STROUD

Aims

We have an exciting opportunity for a Retail Manager who is experienced in and has a true passion for retail and a desire to help set up a new venture in our brand-new furniture shop on the outskirts of Stroud.

The Cotswolds Dogs & Cats Home has 7 shops operating throughout the Cotswolds.  Income generated through our shops is used to support our charitable work ensuring that every vulnerable animal in our community has a safe space and no animal is left to suffer because of cost.  Our retail team are passionate about our shops; focused on sustainability and upcycling, excellent customer service and delivering exceptional results. Income generated by our retail team support abused, neglected and abandoned animals on their journey to loving homes.

Main purpose of job

• To take full accountability for all aspects of the shop while maintaining a strong presence in the local community, maximising sales & profit targets and minimising costs.
• You will show a commitment to the aims of CDCH and possess a willingness and ability to lead a team of paid staff and volunteers to achieve outstanding results.
• This role is broad based and you will be expected to be able to manage several different tasks simultaneously and actively contribute to the smooth functioning of the shop.
• This job has physically active elements. Employees are required to maintain a suitable level of fitness to enable them to perform their job effectively.

Essential skills and experience

• Experience of working in a retail environment
• Achieving success against sales and profit targets
• Experience of managing a diverse team of people
• Financial reconciliation
• Customer Service
• Computer literate with experience of Outlook and use of the internet
• Full Clean Driving Licence
• Ability to work additional hours as required with a flexible approach to working

Duties

• Be responsible for exceeding sales, profit, Gift Aid & KPI targets
• Take full responsibility to ensure the shop is adequately staffed with both paid staff and volunteers, at all times, during the agreed opening hours
• Recruitment, retention & training of paid staff & volunteers, providing on-going support to ensure they carry out the role to the required standard.
• Ensure the shop meets standards required by Health & Safety, Trading Standards and Fire Regulations legislation
• Identify repairs/renovations which may be needed, ensure that they are remedied
• Key holder responsibilities
• Conduct regular performance meeting with paid staff and volunteers to identify and address any development areas
• Ensure all branch procedures & compliance is communicated and adhered to by you and your shop team
• Develop & initiate plans for increasing stock levels by building relationships with the local community to raise awareness of The Cotswolds Dogs & Cats Home and to generate quality donated goods
• Provide excellent levels of customer service to all shop users and instil this within the team
• Ensure that effective stock systems are in place both front & back of house to ensure new stock is displayed on a regular basis
• Motivate staff & volunteers to achieve the shop’s full potential
• Ensure that goods in the shop are priced appropriately
• Maintain high standards at all parts of the customer journey
• Minimise stock loss & carry out stock takes when required
• Work as part of the Retail team to provide cover at other shops when required
• Work as part of the Retail Team to assist with new shop openings

Accountable to: Retail Operations Manager Supervised by: Deputy Retail Operations Manager

Hours: 37.5 hours per week flexible Monday to Sunday based on a 7.5 hour day with a half hour unpaid lunch break.

All new employees to the charity will be subject to a six-month probationary period.
