An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Cheltenham Bournside School as a Teacher of Design & Technology, with specialism in Food & Nutrition. We are looking to appoint a Teacher of Food Preparation & Nutrition to join our lively, high performing and enthusiastic Design & Technology Department. The successful candidate will be a key part of the team, who will teach Food Preparation & Nutrition to highly motivated and talented pupils from Year 7 to 13. The department consists of Head of Design & Technology, six other teachers and two technicians.

The department is well-resourced and currently delivers a range of focused topics at Key Stage 3 including; Food, DT and Textiles. At Key Stage 4 we offer GCSE Food Preparation & Nutrition and GCSE Design & Technology. Candidates should be trained and able to teach GCSE Food Preparation & Nutrition, ideally to A-level.

We are looking for an excellent classroom practitioner (or someone who has the ability to become one), who is committed to teaching exciting, enthusiastic and forward-thinking lessons. The candidate should have a genuine love of food and be able to inspire our students and ensure a positive learning environment.

The post would be an ideal opportunity for a new entrant to the profession although equally attractive to a more experienced colleague. We have a positive commitment to supporting Early Career Teachers and a comprehensive staff development programme.

Person Specification
Qualification

Essential:

• Degree in a Design Technology discipline
• Qualified Teacher Status
• Ability to teach Design & Technology to KS3, including Food Preparation & Nutrition to KS4/5

Desirable:

• 2:1 or better

Experience, understanding and knowledg

Essential:

• A passion for Food and for teaching
• A strong academic background and subject knowledge
• An excellent classroom practitioner (or the potential to be one)
• A commitment to professional development
• An understanding of the needs of pupils across the ability range
• A teacher who can inspire and enthuse pupils and who uses a range of teaching and learning strategies for effective delivery
• An understanding of how to assess pupil progress
• An awareness of ways to raise pupil attainment
• A commitment to safeguarding and the welfare of students

Desirable:

• Good knowledge of the National Curriculum in the subject
• The ability to use ICT to enhance learning and aid teaching
