About the Role

  • Support a wide range of students (A-level, BTEC, undergraduate, postgraduate, and professional courses), adapting to evolving needs with enthusiasm and positivity
  • Show a strong interest in science and animal anatomy, with willingness to assist in all aspects of laboratory work, including collection and preparation of dissection specimens
  • Work effectively across laboratories in three separate buildings, requiring strong organisation and forward planning
  • Contribute as part of a hard-working team that supports students and enables practical science education
  • As an experienced technician, take responsibility for specific modules when confident, interact calmly and professionally with students and teaching staff, and support inductions and practical sessions; an interest or specialism in biochemistry is advantageous              

About You

  • A keen interest in all areas of science.
  • Demonstrable technician experience within a laboratory setting is essential.
  • A willingness to adapt and use your initiative, as you will be joining us at an exhilarating time of expansion and change.
  • Appropriate training will be given to enable you to feel confident providing guidance during practical sessions, therefore you must be able to communicate effectively with students, colleagues and external clients.
  • An understanding of the role of dissection and being able to facilitate this area confidently, preparing and dealing with specimens/organs from a variety of species including equine, porcine, canine and ovine.
  • Must be able to recognise and implement Health and Safety protocols within the laboratory.
  • The ability to plan ahead and recognise that all tasks, even the most inconsequential, are necessary for a smooth-running department.

Salary: £22,608 - £23,189 per annum based on an FTE of £25,660 - £26,320 per annum
