School Catering Assistant

Cheltenham

We are looking to appoint a dedicated, hard-working school catering assistant to join our committed and friendly catering team.

This role is part-time; 20 hours per week, Monday to Friday 10.30am to 2.30pm with some flexibility on busy days.

NJC Pay Scale 5-7

You will take pride in your work, be able to safely prepare and serve food whilst maintaining cleanliness, use your own initiative, be adaptable and keen to learn new skills, with strong communication skills. Previous experience of working in a school catering environment is desirable but not essential.

School catering assistant requirements:

• Friendly, approachable and a team player.
• Punctual and flexible.
• Well-presented.
• Knowledge of catering and basic cooking and food preparation skills (experience in a similar catering role is desirable but not essential)
• Flexibility and willingness to learn new skills

Catering Duties:

• Assist with cooking and preparation of foodstuffs under the direction of the Catering Manager
• Prepare service and dining areas
• Clean kitchen and dining areas to a high standard
• Help with cashless catering tills when required
• Ensure that the school's reputation for food quality and service is enhanced with the staff and pupils
• Any other duties commensurate with the position as directed by Catering Manager
• Participate in training and continuing professional development
• Attend relevant school meetings as required

Person Specification

Essential:

• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Organisational ability and able to manage time to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines
• Appreciation of the issues working around young people and prepared to train to gain up to date knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance in relation to working with, and the protection of children and young people
• Ability to work as part of a team and independently
• Ability to forge and maintain good relationships with members of staff and students
• Willingness to work overtime if required

The following would be desirable:

• Level 2 food hygiene
• Experience of working in a school
• Catering operation
