Would you like to be able to work from your own home and welcome someone into your family environment?

Then Shared Lives could be for you!

Shared Lives is a service in which someone with assessed needs aged 18 and over can be supported for a few hours, a few days, on an outreach, short break or longer term basis in the Shared Lives Carer’s home environment, in the community, or in the supported persons home.

Our service offers an alternative to traditional care options such as residential care, respite or day centres. The service is flexible and supports people to access work, leisure activities and trips out providing outcome focused and bespoke support plans. The service also promotes positive opportunities for building authentic and supportive social networks.

Could you provide short break support for people being discharged from hospital, people with mental health problems, including dementia, or people with physical health difficulties and learning disabilities?

As a Shared Lives Carer you will be self-employed and paid a fee for the support you provide which will cover living expenses. Living expenses are paid and Carers have access to preferential tax arrangements.

To become a Shared Lives Carer you do not need to have previous experience in care, as you will receive ongoing training and support.

The Ideal Candidate:

If you’re interested in becoming a Shared Lives Carer the Shared Lives team would love to talk to you.

You may already have experience of caring for others on a personal or professional basis, but whatever your background or skills, our expert team will be on hand to give you all the training you need and match you according to your lifestyle.

You would be able to provide support for someone in your own home or in their wider community. We are looking for enthusiastic carers who are able to help people to gain as much independence, choice and control over their lives as they are capable of.

Being a Shared Lives Carer is a rewarding and flexible career. All our carers go through an assessment process which takes around three months; it includes an application form, home visits, training and an interview with our Approval Panel. Our friendly team of specialist support staff will go through the whole process with you – we’re here to help every step of the way.

If you think you might have the time and space in your home to offer care or support for vulnerable adults, then we would love to hear from you. No previous care experience is necessary as full training will be provided on an ongoing basis.

Shared Lives is a service where someone with assessed needs aged 18 and over can be supported for a few hours, a few days or live on a long-term basis with a Shared Lives carer in their home as part of the family.
