Textiles Technician (Fixed Term/Part-Time)

Cheltenham

For September 2024, Cheltenham College’s Design Technology (Textiles) Department seeks to appoint a part-time Textiles Technician on a term-time only basis.

The hours of work will be 16 per week and can be agreed with the Head of Textiles to suit the individual and the needs of the department. This is a fixed term position for one term initially (September to mid-December 2024).

The role will involve providing support to the Department’s teaching programme and includes providing practical help to pupils in lessons. It should be noted that this is not a purely clerical post and there will be scope for the successful candidate to become involved in many of the practical aspects of the day-to-day running of the department. Full training will be provided, therefore the ability to learn new skills quickly is required, and applicants should be adaptable and able to demonstrate a high degree of initiative.

In addition, the Textiles Technician will: support teachers in lessons, undertake Textiles-specific tasks such as basic sewing machine work, printing and dyeing of fabric, laser cutting and use of CAD/CAM embroidery machines.

The Textiles classrooms include a CNC embroiderer and screen-printing facilities, dye sublimation printer, heat press, a designated room for storage and dye preparation, large working areas across two classrooms, plus full use of the laser cutter, Adobe Illustrator and 2D Design in the shared CAD room.

Further details of what the role entails can be found in the job description.

Salary note: The salary for this role will be pro-rated to reflect the part-time hours, but is currently based on £11.79 – £12.34 per hour and a full time equivalent of £22,990.50 to 24,063.00 per annum.

Pro rata salary range will be between £6,976.50 and £7,302.00 per annum. Note: the salary will increase for September 2024.

Benefits:

– Free membership to College’s gyms and swimming pool, inclusive lunch available during term time.
