This role is offered on a permanent basis. The hours are part-time 26.25 hours per week.

The Stroke Early Supported Discharge (ESD) Team provide stroke specialist therapy to stroke survivors in their own homes/places of residence across the county of Gloucestershire. The team consists of Occupational Therapists (OT), Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) and Rehabilitation Assistants (RA). We are seeking a Speech and Language Therapist experienced in Stroke Rehabilitation with a passion for delivering the highest quality of specialist intervention. As this is a community-based role you will be required to have a full Driving Licence valid for the UK and your own vehicle for business use.

Adopting national best practice this team ensures that people suffering from a stroke will benefit from the clinical pathway, maximising the health outcomes of those people who are likely to improve with community based specialist rehabilitation. There will be close collaborative working with colleagues in the Acute Stroke setting and Vale Hospital.

We are looking for an enthusiastic clinician to work in this friendly and collaborative multi-disciplinary team who shares a philosophy of empowering patients to be more independent and active in their recovery. You will be committed to developing your own expertise but also support other colleagues to continually develop and grow their own skills through clinical, managerial and peer supervision alongside appraisal.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide specialist Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) assessment, diagnosis and treatment to Stroke patients with communication and swallowing disorders in the community.
  • To work as a key member of the multidisciplinary team contributing to the holistic management and rehabilitation of the Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) caseload.
  • To support the Band 7 Highly Specialist SLT and Team Leads in service development, evaluation and quality initiatives in line with local and national drivers.
  • To support the Team Leads in adhering to national and local standards set out for Stroke and rehabilitation.
  • To provide professional support and advice to wider multi-disciplinary including rehabilitation assistants and students, acting as a clinical resource for speech and language therapy in the specialist area of Stroke.
