Job summary

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for a physiotherapist join the Acute Neurotherapy Team at Gloucester Royal Hospital. You would be joining an experienced, supportive and friendly team.

This post would suit an enthusiastic individual who is passionate about working with patients who have a Neurological condition (such as GBS, MS, FND and Parkinsons) or someone that is looking to develop their clinical experience in acute Neuro rehabilitation.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, motivated to develop their own skills and that of the service, providing high quality and evidence-based therapy. We are looking for a dedicated, proactive, dynamic Physiotherapist to provide specialist knowledge and leadership experience in this setting. You will be a motivated team player who will advocate for patients needs whilst supporting flow in a fast-paced environment.

As a Therapy Department we pride ourselves on developing staff with a dedicated Research and Development team providing CPD support to staff in all roles including to Masters levels and beyond. We have a well-established preceptorship program for new graduated as well as dedicated Peer Support groups in all disciplines. Staff are actively encouraged to participate in research and development, service development and Quality improvement initiatives.

Main duties of the job

The post holder assumes responsibility for the day-to-day management of the clinical area, in the absence of the team leader

To work as a specialist practitioner in the clinical area utilising theoretical knowledge, clinical experience and clinical reasoning skills and techniques to assess, diagnose, plan and offer a range of treatment options; deliver, evaluate and amend the treatment plan. This will include patients with diverse or complex presentations/multi-pathologies in individual or group therapy sessions

To support leadership and work within the Therapy team, providing an effective and evidence-based service through assessing, planning and implementing treatment programmes

To be responsible for the organisation of own caseload and appropriately delegate to support workers or other staff members in order to ensure effective time management. To assist the team in the day to day running of the clinical area.

To communicate with the multi disciplinary team (MDT) to aid effective patient care, which will include taking an active role in team meetings, joint treatment sessions, case conferences and specialist interest group meetings.

To participate in the supervision, caseload monitoring and clinical education of junior therapists, support workers and undergraduate students. Providing support, guidance, training, and assessing and evaluating competence, in order to fulfil clinical governance requirements and retain a skilled workforce.
