Youth Worker (15 hours per week)

Salary: £22,104 - £24,228 pro rata 15 hours per week, depending on experience
(range calculated as £8,840 - £9,601 per annum)
The Frith Youth Centre is highly valued by young people across the local community. They enthusiastically attend the wide range of activities and sessions which the centre offers.
The Frith Youth Centre in Bussage, near Stroud, is currently seeking an enthusiastic Youth Worker to join a new team and assist the Youth Work Team Leader in the delivery of open access youth sessions for young people ages 10 – 17 years.
The post is for 15 hours per week. Sessions for young people at the centre run on Mondays and Thursdays (3.30pm – 7.30pm) and Fridays (3.30pm – 6.30pm). The remaining hours will involve duties to support the running of the sessions and the centre.
Specific duties and responsibilities:
- Assist in the delivery of a successful program of youth work.
- Assist the Youth Work Team Leader in planning of activities for the sessions and to support administrative duties such as completing sign in forms, accident reporting and session evaluations.
- Assist the Youth Work Team Leader in preparing sessions. (This will include setting up, packing away and cleaning of the building before, during and after sessions.)
- Attend occasional meetings associated with management and running of the Youth Centre.
- Contribute to the safety and well-being of young people at the youth centre. This would include reporting any disclosures and concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).
- Undertake occasional outreach work within the community and occasional work with partnering organisations such as local schools.
Person specification
Essential:
- Experience of working with young people, in a relevant setting (which may be a paid or voluntary role).
- Ability to form and sustain positive relationships with young people.
- Ability to plan activities for youth sessions.
- Confidence to contribute to the running of youth sessions.
- Creative outlook and approach to working with young people.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Non-discriminatory approach to working with young people and adults, including those with protected characteristics.
- Enthusiasm to work with and support the growth and development of young people.
- Knowledge of general issues facing young people.
Desirable:
- Hold a qualification in youth work, support, counselling, or another relevant field.
- Personal interests which aid working with young people in areas such as music, sport, art, etc.
- Experience in working with young people facing challenges.
- An awareness of the issues facing young people living in areas such as the Chalford Parish.
- Experience of promotion/marketing using social media.
Start date: Flexible. Ideal start date is 1st April 2024
