School Leaders are delighted to advertise this new Pastoral Lead position to the school, following on from the great work of our current pastoral team. The Rissington School’s Pastoral Lead will work closely with the SENCO, other staff and external professionals to support the social, emotional and mental health needs of our children across both of our school’s sites. This is a terrific opportunity for someone to develop and take ownership of the pastoral provision in school alongside the school’s SENCO.

The successful candidate will have a passion for supporting pupils beyond the classroom, providing support for them to successfully access the curriculum and feel happy and safe in school. Developing nurture space(s) around the school, at both sites, will be an exciting aspect of this role. The school’s Pastoral Lead will be someone who is patient, empathetic, flexible, positive and assertive. They will have the confidence to respond appropriately to various situations and be able to support and offer advice to other staff in the effective support for SEMH needs and behaviour throughout the school.

Safeguarding will be a key part of this role and the Pastoral Lead will be one of the school’s Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads. Appropriate training will be provided to effectively fulfil this role, but knowledge of child protection and safeguarding processes and procedures is essential. The successful candidate will have the confidence to speak to children, parents and other professionals about matters involving safeguarding and child protection and will make referrals to external agencies, including MASH, as needed.

This Grade 5 position is for 22 hours per week. These hours are reasonably flexible for the right candidate, although an example that would suit current need is:
- Monday to Thursday 9:00 – 13:30pm
- Friday 9:30 – 13:30pm

The closing date for applications is Monday 2nd June 2025 at 9am. Shortlisting will take place on this day and interviews will be held later that week. We welcome visits to the school – please contact Lisa Loxton, SENCO, to arrange this via senco@greatrissington.gloucs.sch.uk Alternatively, please contact the school office if you have any questions.

Appointments are made subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check as well as employment checks including the Right to Work Check. As part of our due diligence within safer recruitment, school will be carrying out online searches to help identify any incidents or issues which may need to be explored at interview. Additionally, any gaps or anomalies that arise during the application stage of the recruitment process will be explored further at interview.

Shortlisted candidates will be asked additional questions about safeguarding during the interview process. We promote diversity and want a workforce which reflects the population of Gloucestershire.

The amendments to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (2013 and 2020) provides that when applying for certain jobs and activities, certain convictions and cautions are considered ‘protected’. This means that they do not need to be disclosed to employers, and if they are disclosed, employers cannot take them into account. Guidance about whether a conviction or caution should be disclosed can be found on the Ministry of Justice website.

Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the well-being of all children and expects our staff, volunteers and parents to share this commitment. This position is subject to an enhanced DBS check.
