Assistant Youth Work Team Leader (15 hours per week)
Stroud
Salary: £25,313 - £27,202 pro rata 15 hours
(actual salary £10,125 - £10,880 per annum)
The Frith Youth Centre is highly valued by young people across the local community. They enthusiastically attend the wide range of activities and sessions which the centre offers.
The Frith Youth Centre is currently seeking an enthusiastic assistant youth work team leader. The assistant team leader will help the team leader in running and delivering open access youth work sessions. The assistant team leader will, when required, act as deputy for the team leader.
Youth sessions currently run on Mondays and Thursdays (3.30pm – 7.30pm) and Fridays (3.30pm – 6.30pm). In addition to working on these sessions, there will also be a need at other times to do outreach work within the community and attend meetings.
Specific Duties and responsibilities
- Assist and help lead in the delivery of a successful program of youth work.
- Develop positive, professional relationships with young people and identify and assess their social and informal educational needs.
- Plan activities and projects for the youth work sessions and for the wider project.
- Prepare for the youth work sessions, including setting up, packing away, and cleaning the building before, during and after a session.
- Assist the team leader in administrative duties, and take responsibility for these duties in the team leader’s absence.
- Assist the team leader and youth work administrator with grant finding and funding applications.
- Act as deputy Safeguarding Lead and have a duty of care and a responsibility for the safeguarding and welfare of the young people attending the centre.
- Provide support to assistant youth workers, volunteers, and visitors/carers within sessions
- Increase awareness of the Youth Centre’s activities for young people and for the community through social media and the website and other appropriate channels.
- Undertake responsibilities within the community as required.
Person specification
Essential:
- Experience of working with young people and an enthusiasm for supporting their personal growth and development.
- The ability to form and sustain positive relationships with young people, and to communicate effectively with them, and with adults.
- An understanding of the opportunities and challenges young people face.
- The capacity to plan and deliver suitable activities for youth sessions and to help supervising young people at the centre.
- Good organisational and time management skills
- A non-discriminatory approach to working with young people and adults, including those with protected characteristics. A commitment to fostering diversity and promoting equality of opportunity among young people.
- An understanding of safeguarding and child protection within the context of youth work. An appropriate qualification in this area or a commitment to obtaining one
Desirable:
- Experience in community-based work
- A qualification in youth work, support, counselling, teaching, or another relevant field.
- Experience in working with young people with challenging behaviours.
- Knowledge of issues facing young people locally.
